Amit Shah inaugurates 101 oxygen parks in Ahmedabad

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated 101 oxygen parks and one heritage park in Ahmedabad. Under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign, he called upon the citizens to plant more and more trees and make environmental protection a mass movement.

Ahmedabad: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated 101 oxygen parks and a new heritage park simultaneously in Ahmedabad. This initiative has been launched by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) under the Green Lok Sabha campaign and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign of the Central Government. The program aims to increase green cover in the city, improve air quality and provide more eco-friendly public spaces for citizens.

During the program, Amit Shah appealed to the people to plant a tree on their mother’s birthday, any auspicious occasion or special day and connect environmental protection with public participation.

Appeal to make ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign a mass movement

At the inauguration ceremony, Amit Shah said that environmental protection is not only the responsibility of the government, but the responsibility of every citizen. He said that if every person plants a tree in the name of his mother, then this campaign can become the basis of Green Revolution in the entire country. He also suggested that people should plant trees in honor of their guru or inspiration. According to him, linking tree plantation with personal sentiments will increase both its acceptance and participation in the society.

Green area will increase in Ahmedabad

According to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the simultaneous inauguration of 101 oxygen parks is an important step towards expanding green infrastructure in the city. The objective of these parks is not limited to just plantation, but also to provide natural resources to the citizens for clean environment, better public space and healthy lifestyle. The Municipal Corporation believes that these projects will improve the air quality of the city and increase green cover in urban areas.

Parks developed on the basis of scientific planning

According to municipal officials, the oxygen parks have been developed keeping in mind scientific studies and local conditions. Native species of plants have been planted in these parks to suit the local climate, soil quality, groundwater level and biodiversity. This is expected to strengthen the local ecosystem along with better growth of plants. Experts say that the use of native plants is more effective in maintaining environmental balance in the long run.

Miyawaki technique also used

The Municipal Corporation said that many oxygen parks have been developed through Miyawaki technology and dense plantation method. Under this technique, more number of native plants are planted in a smaller area, due to which dense forest-like greenery develops in a relatively short time. This type of plantation increases carbon dioxide absorption capacity, improves oxygen production and creates natural habitat for creatures like birds, bees and butterflies.

Positive results of Hariyali Lok Sabha campaign

According to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, due to continuous tree plantation and public awareness programs under Hariyali Lok Sabha campaign, an increase of about 11.25 percent has been recorded in the density of trees in Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. The Municipal Corporation says that this increase in green area is an important achievement towards clean air, better environment and sustainable urban development.

Emphasis on public participation in environmental protection

During the program it was also underlined that success in environmental protection is not possible only through government schemes. For this, active participation of common citizens, social organizations, educational institutions and local communities is necessary. Experts believe that if every citizen takes the responsibility of planting trees and taking care of plants regularly, the green cover in urban areas can be increased rapidly.

Balancing urban development and greenery

Amidst rapid urbanization, conservation of green areas in cities has become a major challenge. Due to increasing population, construction activities and number of vehicles, problems like air pollution and increase in temperature are coming to the fore. In such a situation, efforts like Oxygen Park not only help in maintaining environmental balance but also provide open and clean public spaces to the citizens.

Objective of ‘One tree in mother’s name’ campaign

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an effort to connect people with environmental protection through tree plantation. The aim of this initiative is to inspire every citizen to plant a tree in their mother’s honour, so that environmental protection can take the form of both a personal responsibility and a social campaign.

Important initiative towards sustainable development

Experts believe that expanding green cover is an important part of the strategy to combat climate change. Planting more trees can help reduce the impact of carbon emissions, control urban temperatures, promote biodiversity and improve the health of citizens. The inauguration of 101 oxygen parks in Ahmedabad is being considered an important step in this direction.
