Every gram panchayat of UP will become ‘green’, 1.42 crore saplings will be planted in one go.

Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has taken another big step to save the environment. Now preparations are being made to make all the gram panchayats of the state green. The state government is going to start ‘Meri Panchayat-Green Panchayat’ campaign in 57,694 gram panchayats. Under this mega campaign, a target has been set to plant 1.42 crore saplings, which will start on Sunday with ‘Vriksharopan Mahayagya-2026’.

Pledge to protect environment will resonate in every village

According to Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, this campaign will not be limited to just planting trees. Its main objective is environmental protection, water conservation and saving natural resources. For this, special gram sabhas will be called in all gram panchayats, so that the environment can be included in the main agenda of development. These saplings will be planted around government buildings, schools, community centres, ponds and nectar lakes. This will include Peepal, Banyan, Pakad, Neem, Drumstick and various fruit plants. The most important thing is that these plants will not only be planted, but they will also be completely monitored till they grow.

The magic of greenery will be visible at tourist places also

This green resolution of Yogi government will extend to tourist places also. Under ‘Tree Plantation Mahayagya-2026’, the Tourism Department will plant about one lakh saplings at major sites and projects of the state. Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) Amrit Abhijat has finalized the preparations by holding a meeting with the officials in this regard. He has clarified that it will be mandatory to send geo-tagged photo of every planted plant to the department, so that it can be monitored through online medium.

‘Green gardens’ will be developed on the basis of theme

The Tourism Department has planned theme based gardens to make this campaign more attractive. Local species of trees like Peepal, Neem, Arjun, Shisham, Jamun, Mango and Amla will be planted here. Apart from this, at the tourist places where landscaping is to be done, special gardens like Nakshatra Vatika, Triveni Vatika, Harishankari Vatika, Panchavati and Navagrah Vatika will be developed, which will not only be better for the environment but will also become the center of attraction for tourists.
