China’s ‘time bomb’ will explode if earthquake occurs, will cause huge devastation in North-East India
A very scary news has come out for 8 states of North-East of India. A new and huge hydropower project in China has given sleepless nights to millions of people. This warning has been given by none other than the Chinese government geologists themselves in their survey. If timely attention is not given, this project may prove to be a disaster for crores of people of India and Bangladesh.
8 states of North-East may drown?
According to a survey by Chinese scientists, if the situation in this region worsens, the existence of all the 8 states of North-East India may be in danger. The report claims that due to this project a large part of these states is on the verge of being submerged in water. The danger is not limited to India only, but a large area of our neighboring country Bangladesh can also fall prey to this possible devastation.
If earthquake occurs, dam will explode like ‘time bomb’
The most worrying aspect of this entire report is regarding the earthquake. Scientists have given a clear warning that if an earthquake of magnitude 7 or more occurs in this sensitive area, this Chinese dam may explode like a ‘time-bomb’. In such a situation, it is impossible to even imagine the devastation that a dam breach or sudden heavy waterlogging would cause in North-East India. This area is also geographically very sensitive, due to which the danger increases even more.
What is China’s ‘Medog Hydropower Station’?
The name of the project which is being discussed all over the world is ‘Medog Hydropower Station’ (Medog Dam). This dam is being built very close to the India-China border adjacent to Arunachal Pradesh. This is the world’s largest hydropower project being built at a cost of about 137 billion dollars (lakhs of crores of rupees). It is considered to be the largest dam in the world, which has now become a big headache for India in terms of strategic and security. Will India be able to give a strong response to this move of China to stop this growing threat? This remains a big question.
