Chandigarh: The Punjab government has intensified its ration kit distribution campaign ‘Meri Rasoi’ to ensure food security for the backward class families of the state, under which about 33.86 lakh families are being benefited. The objective of this campaign is to provide ration kits to a total of 40.48 lakh eligible families across Punjab every quarter i.e. after 3 months.
Miracle happened under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann
Under this initiative, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, ration kits are being distributed on mission mode. It is noteworthy that under this scheme, each family will get a ration kit, which has been designed to meet the food needs of a family.
This kit includes two kilograms of pulses, two kilograms of sugar, one kilogram of salt, 200 grams of turmeric powder and one liter of mustard oil for monthly consumption. These ration kits are being provided in addition to the wheat already being distributed to eligible beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act, 2013. These ration kits are prepared by Markfed, while the distribution network across the state is monitored by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
Of the 33.86 lakh ration kits distributed so far, Ludhiana led with distribution of 386692 kits, while Amritsar stood second with distribution of 266112 kits, Patiala stood third with distribution of 237320 kits, Gurdaspur stood at fourth position with distribution of 209040 kits, Jalandhar stood at the fourth position with distribution of 195614 kits. At fifth position and Bathinda at sixth position with distribution of 194449 kits.
Similarly, 165364 ration kits were distributed in Fazilka, 166102 ration kits in Sangrur, 184140 in Hoshiarpur, 161253 in Tarn Taran, 142995 in Sri Muktsar Sahib, 129673 in Firozpur, 123321 in Moga, 100371 in Mansa, Kapurthala. 90616 ration kits have been distributed in Uttar Pradesh, 81867 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 82808 in Faridkot, 91991 in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 89596 in Pathankot, 91469 in Rupnagar, 68592 in Barnala, 55400 in Malerkotla and 71614 in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
The purpose of distribution of these ration kits is to include staple grains with essential proteins, cooking oil and spices, thereby ensuring better nutritious diet for the families covered under the scheme.
A strict vigil is being maintained to ensure transparency in distribution, prevent double entry and ensure smooth delivery. District Administration, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and local authorities are working in coordination to ensure the success of this scheme.
This scheme is a direct testimony of the state government’s strong commitment to ensure food security for every eligible family. By including these ration kits in the existing NFSA wheat distribution, both hunger and nutrition issues are being addressed.
