India’s first bullet train will run on tracks next year, will start from Surat-Bilimora

New Delhi: The dream of high-speed train in India is now going to become a reality. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced on Saturday that the first section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train will start next year. Along with this, the government also announced plans for 3 new high-speed corridors connecting to Hyderabad.

First start will be from Surat-Bilimora   

The Railway Minister said that work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route is going on at a fast pace. In the first phase, bullet train will be run between Surat and Bilimora next year. After this, the remaining parts will be completed in a phased manner. According to the plan, first from Vapi to Surat, then from Vapi to Ahmedabad, then from Ahmedabad to Thane and finally from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, the entire corridor will be ready. While sharing the video of Vaishnav’s statement, the Railway Ministry wrote, "India’s first bullet train is entering its next phase."  

Hyderabad will become a high-speed hub   

Speaking at the HYSEA GCCS and IT Roundtable, the minister said that PM Modi has given three major bullet train corridors to Hyderabad. This will change the map of entire South India.

1. Pune – Hyderabad: Travel time will reduce to just 2 hours
2. Hyderabad – Chennai: The journey will be completed in 3 hours
3. Hyderabad – Bengaluru: Can be reached in 2 hours 35 minutes

Apart from this, Hyderabad to Mumbai will be covered in 2 hours 50 minutes and Hyderabad to Amravati will be covered in just 1 hour 10 minutes. Vaishnav said, "Hyderabad will become a high-speed hub. This will connect the economies of the entire region and give a new impetus to development."  

Gift of Rs 5400 crore to Telangana   

The Railway Minister said that a huge railway budget of Rs 5,400 crore has been allocated for Telangana by PM Modi. This will bring a big change in connectivity and infrastructure in the state. According to the minister, after the commencement of all three corridors, Hyderabad will become the largest high-speed junction in the country. This will benefit all three sectors: IT, business and tourism.

What is Mumbai-Ahmedabad project?   

The 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is India’s first bullet train project. It will have 12 stations and the train will run at a speed of 320 km per hour. This train, being built with the cooperation of Japan, will cover the distance of Mumbai-Ahmedabad in less than 2 hours. The government’s target is to first make people experience high-speed from the Surat-Bilimora section, and then gradually make the entire route operational.
