In the Commonwealth Games 2026, late on Wednesday night (Indian time), para athletes performed brilliantly in the men’s 100 meter T47 final event and won ‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’ medals for India. Dilip Mahadu Gavit produced his season’s best performance with a ‘Games Record’ by winning the gold medal with a timing of 10.71 seconds. Whereas, Mohammad Basil Morsinganakath won silver with 10.83 seconds (season best).
With this historic performance, Dilip Mahadu Gavit became the first Indian male athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in Para athletics. Also, she is the second Indian Para athlete overall to win a gold medal in Commonwealth Games Para Athletics, after Sharmila’s gold in the women’s shot put F57 event.
The bronze medal of this event went to Kevin Santos of England, who recorded a time of 10.85 seconds.
Dilip Gavit, born in Toran Dongri village near Nashik, Maharashtra, won the gold medal in the men’s 400m T47 event at the Asian Para Games 2022, securing the historic 100th medal for India in these Games. He brought glory to the country by reaching the final of the men’s 400m T47 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Whereas, Basil is a resident of Veliyankode, a small coastal town in Malappuram district of Kerala. Basil is pursuing training as well as degree course at LNCPE-SAI, Thiruvananthapuram under the supervision of Coach Srinivasan. Through hard work and disciplined training, he has emerged as one of India’s most promising para sprinters. He has proved himself in the Commonwealth Games 2026.
