An Indian died in an attack on a commercial ship in the Black Sea; the Ministry of External Affairs expressed deep concern.

An Indian citizen was killed in an attack on a commercial vessel in the Black Sea. The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack and called the incident a matter of grave concern.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the ship, MV Omorfi, was transiting through Russian territorial waters in the Black Sea when it was attacked on July 18. Ten crew members, including three Indians, were on board the ship at the time of the attack.

“According to available information, one Indian national tragically lost his life in the attack. We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. The remaining two Indians are safe,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry further stated that India strongly condemns such attacks on commercial vessels, which endanger the lives of innocent civilian crew members. The growing threats to free navigation and international trade are a matter of concern. India appeals to all concerned parties to ensure the safety of maritime navigation and the uninterrupted flow of global commerce.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Mission has contacted the concerned authorities in Russia and is trying to provide all possible assistance to the affected family.
