Ukraine PM Yuliya Svyrydenko Resignation: Amidst the ongoing fierce war with Russia, there has been a major turn in the politics of Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a major reshuffle in his government, soon after which the country’s Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko has resigned from her post.
After this decision, President Zelensky said that this step has been taken with the aim of changing the political strategy of Ukraine and bringing new momentum in the administration.
When did Yulia Sviridenko become the PM of Ukraine?
Yulia Sviridenko became Prime Minister in July 2025 at the age of just 39. She has been the Economy Minister of Ukraine, the biggest achievement of her tenure is considered to be sealing an important mineral agreement with the US, which tightly linked US interests to Ukraine’s security.
President Zelensky announced his resignation, saying that he had offered the former prime minister a new and important international post. This position will be related to further strengthening Ukraine’s relations with a key international ally. In his farewell message, Sviridenko said he was proud to lead the government during the most difficult period in its history and was ready to serve the country in the future.
Elections are not being held due to martial law
The reshuffle is the fourth major reorganization of the Zelensky government since the beginning of Russia’s all-out invasion. Let us tell you that due to martial law in Ukraine, elections are not being held in the country, hence Zelensky is making changes in the leadership from time to time.
Following the announcement, the President held important meetings with several senior officials, including Energy Minister Denis Schmihal, Interior Minister Igor Klimenko and Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov. According to Zelensky, now each priority area of foreign policy will be assigned to a specific experienced person who can effectively implement the expectations of the Ukrainian public at the international level.

The Ukrainian military has targeted Russia’s Syzran oil refinery, located about 800 kilometers from the border. In response, Russia has intensified the bombing of Ukraine’s Odessa and Chornomorsk ports. Several people, including a child, have been reported injured in Ukrainian attacks in Russia’s Samara region. Zelensky described these attacks on Russian energy infrastructure as part of Kiev’s ‘long-range sanctions campaign’ It is said to be part of a plan aimed at weakening Russia’s ability to continue the war.
