A three-judge bench headed by Supreme Court Chief Surya Kant has fixed the further hearing of the case on July 20. The bench has sought response from the trust managing the temple as well as the state government and the Centre. Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana were also included in this bench, which was hearing the petition related to Ayodhya Ram temple donation theft, misappropriation and irregularities.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta represented the central and state governments. Mehta said the status report will be filed in a sealed cover. He has accepted the notice for the state and the Centre. Counsel for one of the petitioners said that CCTV footage and other records need to be preserved. The second lawyer requested that a copy of the status report to be filed by the state should also be given to him. However, the bench refused to accede to the request at this stage. The bench said that we will see later. This is an ongoing investigation.

The two petitions have been filed by lawyers Ajay Kumar Rai and Dinesh Kumar Yadav and RJD MP Sudhakar Singh through lawyer Satyam Singh Rajput. A CBI investigation has been demanded in this. He argued that the Yogi government, Uttar Pradesh Police and the state SIT cannot be trusted for a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory investigation.

The petition filed by RJD MP had demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged theft of donations in Ayodhya Ram temple. The petition also sought a direction to the temple trust to place before the court complete details of all donations, such as money and valuables, received since its formation on February 5, 2020.

The petition said it raises issues of vital public importance relating to the administration of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Ayodhya UP, the safety of offerings made by lakhs of devotees and maintaining the trust of the people in one of the most revered religious institutions of the country.

The petition emphasizes the need for constitutional safeguards to make the ongoing investigation into allegations related to the handling of offerings by devotees impartial, independent and instilling the confidence of the country. In the petition, an appeal has been made to the Supreme Court to direct Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust to give complete details of all donations, offerings and contributions received since its formation. This statement should include information on cash donations, bank transfers, digital payments, foreign contributions, in-kind donations, gold, silver and other valuables, as well as their accounting, custody and use.

In the second petition filed by lawyers Ajay Kumar Rai and Dinesh Kumar Yadav, it has been said that the way the funds of an organization which is working in a trustworthy capacity are being handled, directly harms the faith, sentiments and trust of the countless devotees and common people who have voluntarily contributed to build the Lord Shri Ram temple at the birthplace.

The petition states that the veracity of the allegations relating to missing funds, accounting irregularities and other financial irregularities related to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust can be ascertained only through a thorough, independent and professional investigation by an agency which has specialized information, necessary sources, technical capabilities and a well-built institutional structure to investigate complex financial and economic crimes.

The third petition, filed by Narendra Kumar Goswami, an advocate, sought a declaration that the offerings made by devotees to Shri Ram Lalla Virajman at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, including cash, gold, silver, jewellery, valuables and digital donations, are sacred property of the trust, which needs to be handled in a transparent, accountable and trustworthy manner.
