History created at Lord’s! Indian women’s team won the first test by defeating England

New Delhi: "Home of Cricket" A new history was written on Monday. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women’s team played its first Test match at Lord’s and made it memorable. India became the first team to win a women’s Test at Lord’s by defeating hosts England by a huge margin of 270 runs. This victory was not just a match. The preparation team, which reached UK two weeks ago, handled the conditions, slope and pressure with the same confidence as at home.

Mandhana-Bhatia-Gaur trio turned the match   

The foundation of the match was laid in the first two days itself. England won the toss and chose to bowl, but Indian batsmen scored 285 runs. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana played a classic inning of 83 runs. With 11 fours and 1 six, he pushed the England attack on the backfoot. She was supported by Harmanpreet Kaur’s 58 runs and Deepti Sharma’s 57 runs.

22 year old fast bowler Kranti Gaur did wonders in bowling. Kranti, swinging from the Nasri end, took 5 wickets for 37 runs in 17 overs. By bowling 7 maiden overs, he reduced England to 170. India got a lead of 115 runs in the first innings.

Yastika Bhatia stole the show in the second innings. Wicketkeeper-batsman Yastika scored 113 runs in 158 balls. With the help of 14 fours, she registered her name on the Lord’s Honors Board and became the first woman to score a Test century here. Mandhana again scored 70 and Richa Ghosh scored 50 runs in 52 balls. Harmanpreet declared the innings at 341 for 7 at tea. Sophie Ecclestone took 5 wickets for 118 runs, but by then the match was out of hand.

Sneh Rana did all the work   

England, coming with a target of 457 runs, could not withstand the pressure in the second innings. Sneh Rana’s off spin took 3 wickets for 42 runs. Kranti Gaur and Deepti Sharma got 2-2 wickets. On Sunday, Amy Jones played a fighting inning of 54 not out, but it took 15 minutes for India to take the last wicket on Monday morning. Lauren Feiler was caught on Sneh’s ball and India secured a historic victory.

Invincible India in England   

With this victory, India’s record of no defeat in England also remained intact. 3 wins and 7 draws in 10 tests. This is the fourth win in the last 5 tests. ICC Chairman Jay Shah and Sachin Tendulkar were present in the stands after the victory. As soon as the match ended, Sachin came to the field and congratulated the team. The celebration with the tricolor in the Lord’s balcony made this victory more special.
