IB Officer Ankit Sharma Murder Case: Five accused including former AAP councilor Tahir Hussain found guilty in IB Officer Ankit Sharma murder case.
New Delhi. Karkardooma Court of Delhi has given its verdict in the murder case of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 Delhi riots. The court has convicted former Aam Aadmi Party councilor Tahir Hussain. Nazim, Kashim, Anas and Javed have also been held guilty of the murder of the IB officer. However, the court has acquitted 6 accused due to lack of evidence. Earlier on July 7, Karkardooma Court had postponed its decision. Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet against all the 11 accused under sections 109, 114, 147, 148, 149, 436, 15 3A, 505, 365, 302, 201, 120B, 34 of the Indian Constitution.

There were protests in Delhi for several days in 2020 against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and riots broke out during that time. Meanwhile, IB officer Ankit Sharma went missing on 25 February 2020. The next day on 26 February, his body was recovered from Khajuri Khas drain near Chandbagh culvert. Ankit Sharma’s body was in a very mutilated condition, seeing which it was being estimated that he was murdered very brutally. Later, the post-mortem report revealed a total of 51 injury marks on his body, out of which 12 wounds on the thighs, legs, chest and back part of the body were caused by knife tattoos.

Apart from this, information was also revealed in the post mortem report that Ankit Sharma was attacked several times on his head and body with heavy objects like rods and sticks. The issue of the heinous murder of Ankit Sharma was also raised in the Parliament. While discussing this matter in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that the SIT has got hold of a video in which the secrets of Ankit Sharma’s murder are hidden. This video has been sent by a common citizen.
