Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash-starrer Ramayana Part 1 trailer was released on Thursday, and it has received a mixed response from netizens. While many loved the spectacle and the detailing, most criticised the casting of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Mata Sita.
After the trailer of Ramayana went viral, Om Raut’s Adipurush started trending as many cinema lovers slammed the film’s crass dialogues and shoddy screenplay and questioned how it was even passed by the CBFC for release.
Adipurush is based on the Ramayana. The movie, which starred Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, received mostly negative reviews and was a flop at the box office.
As Adipurush started trending again, an Instagram post claiming to be from producer Namit Malhotra has gone viral, in which he is allegedly taking a dig at Raut. The post reads, “As the makers of Ramayana, I sincerely request every theatre across the country to reserve one seat in honour of our nation’s greatest director, Sir Om Raut, in every theatre. Jai Hind. Namit Malhotra.”
However, it’s a fake post, and nothing like this has been shared by Malhotra on Instagram.
When Adipurush was released, Raut had requested producers and theatre owners to keep one seat vacant for Lord Hanuman in every theatre. The fake post appears to be taking a dig at that request.
Adipurush faced a lot of criticism because of its VFX and dialogues. The film earned Rs. 288.15 crore net at the Indian box office against its reported budget of Rs. 500 crore.
Meanwhile, Ramayana, a two-part franchise, is reportedly being made on a budget of Rs. 4,000 crore. It is expected to be the most expensive film made in India.
Amid a mixed response, acclaimed actor-director Rishab Shetty took to social media to share his admiration for the trailer. He praised producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari for creating such an incredibly convincing cinematic world and also appreciated the entire cast and crew for their dedication and vision. Rishab spoke about the immense responsibility that comes with portraying iconic characters, saying he could deeply relate to that pressure as an actor. He further applauded Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and the film’s music composers for their remarkable contribution to bringing this epic story to life.
