Indian teacher Rubal Nagi honored with Global Teacher Prize worth 10 million dollars

Dubai/New Delhi. Indian teacher and social activist Rubal Nagi has been awarded the prestigious Global Teacher Prize for the year 2026 for her innovative contribution in the field of education. This award, with a prize money of one million dollars (about Rs 8.5 crore), is considered to be the world’s biggest award in the education sector. The award was announced during the World Governments Summit 2026 held in Dubai.

Rubal Nagi’s most unique initiative is ‘Living Walls of Learning’. Under this, she transforms dilapidated and empty walls into interactive educational pictures. Through these walls, children are given information about language, mathematics, science, cleanliness, environmental protection and social responsibilities. This initiative not only attracts children but also works to connect the entire community with education. He has established more than 800 learning centers in more than 100 poor colonies and villages, where he has tried to connect children out of school with education.

More than 5 thousand nominations came from 139 countries

This year, more than 5,000 nominations and applications were received from 139 countries for the Global Teacher Prize. Of these, Rubal Nagi was chosen the winner. According to the organisers, more than 10 lakh children have so far been linked to the formal education system through their initiative.

Trained more than 600 teachers

Ruble Nagy has trained over 600 volunteer and salaried teachers through his organization Ruble Nagy Art Foundation (RNAF). Their education model has developed a flexible and practical learning system keeping in mind the challenges like child labour, poverty, early marriage and lack of resources.

Dropout rate decreased

Ruble’s programs have reduced school dropouts by more than 50 percent in many areas. There has also been significant improvement in the long-term educational continuity of children.

Plan to open skill development institute

Rubal Nagi will use the prize money to set up a skilling institute. Through this institute, free vocational training and digital literacy programs will be provided to underprivileged children and youth.

Confluence of art and social change

Apart from education, Rubal Nagi is also an internationally renowned artist. He has created more than 850 murals and sculptures in India and abroad and has participated in more than 200 exhibitions. He has received many honors including Jijamata Award, GR8 Award, MAP Noble Artist Award and Hello Urja Award.
