Automobile Desk – MG Hector Hawk: MG Motor is preparing to introduce its new SUV MG Hector Hawk in the Indian automobile market. This new SUV can be launched by August 2026. Recently its electric variant has been seen during testing, after which a lot of discussions have started about it. This new model is expected to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560 and the company is preparing it on its new ADAPT platform. After coming to the Indian market, this car will give tough competition to popular vehicles like Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and Mahindra XEV 9S.
What will be the exterior and design?
The model spotted during testing was completely camouflaged, but some of its key design elements are clearly visible. The front of the vehicle features modern-tech LED headlights, flanked by sleek LED DRLs above and below them. The closed grille design suggests this is its all-electric (EV) avatar. The side profile reveals spotty alloy wheels and a charging port positioned on the rear left fender. The rear features wraparound LED taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a rear wiper, giving it a muscular and premium look.
Cabin and modern features
While official images of its cabin haven’t been released yet, it’s expected to feature a minimalist and tech-laden interior similar to the international model. Its dashboard could feature an 8.8-inch digital driver display and a large 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It could feature a 7-seater layout with leatherette upholstery. Premium features like a panoramic sunroof, a 50W fast wireless charger, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, and a 6-speaker sound system could be included.
Tight security arrangements
MG is also fully modernizing this SUV in terms of safety. It will come standard with advanced safety features like six airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, hill-hold assist, an electronic parking brake, a rear camera with parking sensors, and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
Powertrain, Battery and Range
The MG Hector Hawk could be offered in both PHEV (plug-in hybrid) and EV (electric) options. The hybrid (PHEV) variant will feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 20.5 kWh battery pack. This setup will deliver 195 HP of power, 230 Nm of torque, and an all-electric range of 125 km. The fully electric (EV) variant will feature a larger 69.2 kWh battery pack and a front-mounted motor that will generate 201 HP of power and is claimed to offer a CLTC range of up to 530 km on a single charge.
Market position and potential price
In MG’s current lineup, the hybrid model will be positioned above the standard Hector and above the electric variant, the ZS EV. The company plans to launch it at a fairly aggressive price compared to its competitors.
