Iran War: Is something big going to happen? Iranian diplomats reach Foreign Ministry after death of Indian sailor
Iran War: An Indian sailor died in the attacks on United Arab Emirates (UAE) tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, after which the Indian government took strict action. India summoned the Iranian Embassy in Delhi and sought answers.
Following India’s summons, Iranian diplomats reached the Foreign Ministry, including Iran’s Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), Mohammad Javad Hosseini. Indian officials have expressed concern about the safety of their large maritime community in Iran. Thousands of Indian citizens work on merchant ships in the region, often in high-risk areas.
Death of an Indian crew member
Iran attacked UAE tanker Mombasa, killing one Indian crew member and injuring eight others. These include six Indians and two Ukrainians. The condition of four of the injured is critical. Following the Iranian attack, both tankers caught fire, which were later brought under control.
UAE angry over Iran’s attacks
The UAE strongly condemned Iran’s attacks, calling them a flagrant violation of international law and a threat to regional security. The UAE said, “We reserve the right to respond to any action that escalates tensions.”

The incident comes amid rising tensions between Iran and its neighbours, with the Strait of Hormuz being a sensitive hub. It is worth noting that Hormuz is a narrow sea route, through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil exports flow.
Which UAE tankers were attacked?
This attack by Iran on the maritime border of Oman has further increased the tension in West Asia. This has further endangered the navigation of commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Following the attack, the UAE Defense Ministry issued a statement, stating that the ships attacked were the oil tanker “Mombasa” and the LNG carrier “Al Bahia”. The UAE said both ships were attacked by Iranian cruise missiles while passing through the southern shipping lane.
