Jane G’s protest on the streets of Nepal again! Why is the neighboring country blowing against Prime Minister Balendra?
He was the main face of Zen-Zi movement in Nepal. Against that Balendra Shah this time in Rajpath Zen G! Virtually the opposite. In the last 3 days, 3 youths have poured petrol on their bodies and set them on fire in public streets demanding Balendra’s resignation.
But why the sudden protest against Balendra? The protest was against the government’s decision to evict landless squatters without providing alternative resettlement. Members of the ‘Joint National Squatters Front’ organized the protest program outside the Sinha Durbar Secretariat in Kathmandu at Maitighar Mandal. During the protest, participants voiced several demands such as an end to the abuse of the poor, respect for human rights, an end to illegal arrests and decent housing for unauthorized settlers. They displayed placards with various slogans. The government is increasingly worried about the direction in which the situation is moving. In this situation, the opposition party Nepali Congress has targeted the Balendra government by standing by the youth society. It has been claimed that this suicide is due to the failure of the state.
Meanwhile, last Friday night, floods hit the government shelter located in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. About 150 unauthorized residents (squatters) were staying there. Security personnel moved them to a safe place. The next day, when the ‘Generation Z’ workers arrived to see the situation first hand, the police allegedly lathi-charged them and arrested them. At this time, one worker was injured in the face. He was taken to hospital.
It is to be noted that last year, Balendra Shah was one of the architects of the Gen-G rebellion and the fall of the former KP Sharma Oli government in Nepal. In September last year, his song left a response among the youth. Oli’s government has been rocked by public outcry against social media bans, unemployment, corruption and ailing economy. After overthrowing the government, elections were held again on March 5 in Nepal. Balendra Shah won this election by defeating Oli. He also became the Prime Minister of the country in just 35 years. However, before a year has passed, Balendra himself is in the face of public anger.
