Ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka, there’s some good news for the Indian cricket team. Team India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been declared fit to play both matches. When Team India was recently announced for the Sri Lanka tour, Jasprit Bumrah was included in the squad. However, the final decision on his participation was to be based on his fitness. Now, reports indicate that Jasprit Bumrah is fully fit and has passed the fitness test. The COE has approved the fast bowler to play.
Jasprit Bumrah passes fitness test
Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury during the second ODI of the England tour, which prevented him from playing the third ODI at Lord’s. He was subsequently included in the Test squad selected for the Sri Lanka tour only on the condition of passing a fitness test. With the team grappling with numerous injuries ahead of the two-Test series starting in Galle on August 15th, Bumrah’s availability is a significant relief.

A senior BCCI official, on condition of anonymity, told PTI, “Jasprit Bumrah has recovered from his injury. He has passed the required fitness tests of the COE. He is expected to be available for both the matches as he is an important part of the team’s plans.”
Team India’s pace attack strengthened
The return of Jasprit Bumrah significantly strengthens India’s fast bowling attack at a crucial stage of the World Test Championship cycle. Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, India currently sits fifth in the WTC standings, one place above Sri Lanka, and needs a win to stay in contention for the 2027 final. The visitors will need to win seven of their remaining nine Test matches to remain in contention for the final. Therefore, a 2-0 series win in Sri Lanka is crucial before the challenging tour of New Zealand later this year.
How is Bumrah’s record against Sri Lanka?
Jasprit Bumrah’s statistics against Sri Lanka are quite impressive. He has played two Test matches against Sri Lanka so far, taking 10 wickets in four innings at an average of 9.00. He also took one four-wicket haul during this period, with his best figures being 5/24.Â
