Today’s Weather Update, August 1: From northern to eastern parts of India, the monsoon’s fierce form can be seen today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rain and severe thunderstorms for several states on August 1.
According to meteorologists, there will be a major change in the weather in these states during the next 9 hours and winds blowing at a speed of 75 kilometers per hour can wreak havoc.
Torrential rain in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Gujarat. This situation is due to a cyclonic circulation developing in eastern Uttar Pradesh and a low-pressure area near Rajasthan.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the national capital, Delhi, until late this evening. Wind speeds could reach 50 km/h, while the maximum temperature is expected to be 34 degrees.
How will the weather be in Uttar Pradesh today?
Today, a rain and thunderstorm alert has been issued for several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Gautam Buddha Nagar, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Prayagraj, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur. Temperatures in Lucknow will range between 28°C and 33°C.
How will the weather be in Bihar-Jharkhand?
Districts like Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Champaran in Bihar are likely to experience rain accompanied by gusty winds of up to 70 km/h. The weather department has also warned of the possibility of lightning. Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Hazaribagh in Jharkhand are also likely to experience heavy rain and winds of up to 60 km/h.
Landslide warning in the mountains
Heavy rains in mountainous states like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have increased the risk of landslides. Winds of up to 70 km/h are also expected in Jammu and Kashmir. The Meteorological Department has warned farmers about crop damage and has strongly advised fishermen not to venture into the sea or rivers.
Tourists and local residents travelling to hilly areas have been asked to exercise special caution as sudden heavy rains may cause the water level of rivers to rise rapidly.
