Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, Sri Lanka’s emerging javelin thrower, initially dreamed of becoming a cricketer. He began playing cricket as a child and established himself as a fast bowler at school level. At the under-16 level, he bowled at speeds of 134 km/h and caught everyone’s attention with his speed in a fast bowling talent hunt. In a school match, he took five wickets and scored a half-century.
However, making it to national cricket was extremely difficult. Then he realized that his talent in javelin throwing could take him rapidly forward.
