Rohit-Kohli did not work, still 250 plus target was chased, when was the last time this happened?

The first match of the 3-match series between India and England was played on Tuesday (July 14) at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. In this match, Team India won by 6 wickets. This was the first victory of the Indian team on the United Kingdom (UK) tour. Earlier, it had lost 6 out of 7 T20 matches, while 1 match was washed out due to rain. In the match, the England team, which came to bat first after winning the toss, was restricted to 258 runs in 47.5 overs, which Team India easily achieved by losing 4 wickets in 45.2 overs.

Captain Shubhman Gill played an inning of 80 runs. He retired and returned from the field hurt. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar played unbeaten half-century innings. Washington, promoted to number-5, scored unbeaten 52 runs in 63 balls. Akshar scored unbeaten 57 runs in 52 balls. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma failed. Rohit scored 11 runs in 21 balls, while Kohli could score only 5 runs in 6 balls. This happened for the second time after 2016, when despite neither Rohit-Kohli scoring a half-century with the bat, the Indian team successfully chased 250 plus in ODIs.

When was the last time this happened?

Despite the failure of stalwarts like Rohit-Kohli, Team India last achieved the target of more than 250 in 2022. Coincidentally that match was also against England. In that match played in Manchester, the Indian team was chasing the target of 260 runs. Rohit and Kohli returned to the pavilion after scoring 17-17 runs. After this, Rishabh Pant took charge and along with Hardik Pandya took India to the threshold of victory. Pant scored the first and only century of his ODI international career in this match. He played a memorable inning of 125 not out in 113 balls, due to which Team India recovered from the score of 72/4 and easily achieved the target by losing 5 wickets in 42.1 overs.
