India Post creates history of Rs 4,000 crore business in first quarter!
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said on Tuesday that India Post has created a new history by crossing the turnover figure of Rs 4,000 crore for the first time in the first quarter (April-June) of the financial year 2026-27. The department has recorded the highest ever first quarter turnover of Rs 4,008.95 crore during this period.
Chairing the quarterly business review meeting of the postal department held in the national capital, Scindia reviewed the performance of the April-June quarter and also laid out the strategic framework of the department for the remaining period of the current financial year. Senior officials of the Postal Directorate and Chief Postmaster Generals of all 23 postal circles in the country attended the meeting.
Scindia said that this time the business of the first quarter has increased by 22.2 percent compared to the same period of the financial year 2025-26. He said that this is the first time in the history of India Post that the revenue of the department has crossed the Rs 4,000 crore mark in any quarter.
He said this achievement reflects the transformation of India Post into a modern, future-ready and citizen-centric organization under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is also a testament to the commitment of postal employees across the country to provide efficient, innovative and tailored services to the needs of citizens.
Scindia said, “This record performance for the first quarter of FY 2026-27 is not just a financial achievement, but it is a symbol of the trust of crores of citizens who rely on India Post every day. Our aim is to make India Post a globally competitive, technology-driven and citizen-first organization.”
During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the performance of six major business areas of the department. Growth was recorded across all major business verticals despite challenging global conditions.
Parcel services performed the best, registering a growth of 49.9 per cent, while mail services turnover grew by 41.9 per cent. Despite global uncertainties, international trade grew by 34.3 percent. At the same time, citizen-centric services were the fastest growing sector, registering a growth of 85.7 percent.
Apart from this, the combined business of Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) grew by 20.1 percent, while the business of Post Office Savings Bank registered a growth of 9.7 percent.
Scindia said the overall growth across all key business areas proves that India Post’s diversified business portfolio is continuously strengthening and its role in providing accessible public services across the country.
