Venue of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatra Ki Goonj’ program changed in Dehradun, now the meeting will be held at Bannu School ground.
Knews Desk- Congress leader in Dehradun and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s proposed ‘Echoes of students’ The venue of the event was changed at the last moment. Earlier this program was to be organized on July 17 at the Parade Ground, but after the administration canceled the permission, Congress has now decided to organize it at Bannu School Ground. The politics of the state has heated up over changing the venue of the program and Congress has accused the government of exerting political pressure.
Congress leaders claim that the party had earlier received permission for the parade ground, but later the administration withdrew it. The party alleges that this decision was taken under government pressure so that Rahul Gandhi’s program could be stopped. Congress says that this step shows that the state government is uncomfortable with Rahul Gandhi’s program. However, the party clarified that keeping in mind the safety of students and parents, it decided to change the venue of the event instead of escalating the controversy.
After the cancellation of permission, the political atmosphere in Dehradun became more heated late on Monday night. A large number of party workers including Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal, former state president Pritam Singh, senior leader Harak Singh Rawat, co-in-charge Manoj Yadav reached the parade ground from the Congress headquarters. During this time there was a minor altercation between the police and the workers. Congress leaders and supporters staged a protest in the grounds and raised slogans against the state government and protested against the cancellation of permission.
During the protest, State President Ganesh Godiyal made many serious allegations against the government and administration. He said the Congress was granted permission to field the grounds for the first three days, but it was later canceled without any concrete reason. Godiyal also claimed that there was no actual activity going on in the government program citing which Congress’s permission was cancelled. According to him, the administration’s decision is completely the result of political pressure.
Godiyal also informed that Congress had collected around Rs 1.77 lakh against the prescribed fee of Rs 65,000 for the use of the parade ground. Despite this, the permission was withdrawn at the last moment. He said that if the administration had any kind of objection, it should have been made clear in advance. The last minute change in venue affected the preparations for the event and the workers had to face additional challenges.
However, Congress also made it clear that it does not want to create any conflict situation. The party says that a large number of students and parents are going to participate in the program, so their safety is the top priority. For this reason, instead of increasing the controversy over the parade ground, it was decided to organize the program at Bannu School grounds. The party expressed confidence that a large number of students will participate in the program at the new venue also and Rahul Gandhi will directly interact with them.
Congress has made it clear that no change has been made in the date of the program. ‘Echoes of students’ The program will be held only on July 17, but now it will be organized at Bannu School grounds in Dehradun. The party says that all the scheduled programs and preparations for the event are being done as per the new venue.
At the same time, a round of allegations and counter-allegations continues between the Congress and the state government regarding the cancellation of permission. Congress is calling it an attempt to obstruct democratic programs, while the administration has given its own reasons for canceling the permission. In such a situation, after changing the venue, the controversy seems to be settled immediately, but the political debate regarding this issue is still likely to continue.
