Has a big war started? 148 Indian sailors trapped in Iran-US war
The military conflict between America and Iran in West Asia has now reached a very dangerous point. Indian citizens are having to pay the heaviest price for this tension. According to the latest data, 13 Indians have died so far in this conflict that has been going on since March 2026, while three Indian citizens are still missing. Three Indians have lost their lives in the last 48 hours alone. The situation became more serious when an Indian sailor was killed and 10 others were injured in the Iranian attack on two commercial ships ‘Al Bahia’ and ‘Mombasa’ in the Strait of Hormuz.
Attack on ships and India’s tough stance
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, there were a total of 30 Indian sailors on board these two ships. The condition of two of the injured is said to be critical. After this incident, India has summoned Iran’s Deputy Ambassador in New Delhi and lodged a strong objection. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has strongly condemned the targeting of Indian citizens and commercial ships in international waterways. India has appealed to all parties to adopt the path of peace and diplomacy. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has also warned Iran of strict retaliatory attacks.
Trump’s new ‘toll’ rule and international opposition
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has further increased the tension in this entire area. He has announced the imposition of a US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and the imposition of a 20 percent toll on ships passing through there. There is strong opposition to this decision of Trump at the international level. Brazilian President Lula da Silva has even called it ‘robbery’. India has also opposed the idea of collecting this duty. Amid the tension, seven Indian ships, carrying 148 Indian sailors, are stranded in the Persian Gulf. At present, these ships have been stopped there due to security reasons.
Gulf on the brink of war: Crude oil prices surge
Fears of war have intensified after Iran claimed attacks on US military bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait. Due to this conflict, crude oil has also become expensive, whose prices have jumped by nine percent and crossed $ 86 per barrel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also raised the issue of maritime security and attacks on civilian infrastructure prominently in global forums. India’s main focus is to ensure the safe return of its 148 sailors and other nationals as well as unhindered movement on international sea routes.
