Modi-Shah’s path became easier, opposition on backfoot due to this move of Sharad Pawar
Sharad Pawar, who is called ‘Chanakya’ of Maharashtra politics, has once again made such a political move that political pundits from Delhi to Mumbai have been surprised. NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule has indicated that her party can support the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill i.e. ‘Delimitation Bill’ of the Central Government. This unexpected decision of Pawar is not just a support of a bill, but a masterstroke, which has hit many political targets simultaneously.
Diplomatic move: Neither left the alliance, nor supported
This move of Sharad Pawar is very well thought out. He has neither officially left the ‘India’ alliance nor has he joined the NDA. But by adopting a supportive stance on a sensitive bill like delimitation, he has opened all future avenues for his party. Political experts believe that by giving this signal of support to the central government in difficult times, Pawar has completely protected his party from the threat of any possible sabotage or ‘poaching’. The move has not only provided relief to the BJP but also put immense political pressure on the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction.
Modi government’s path became easier
This delimitation bill is very important. As soon as this law is made, the seats of Lok Sabha will increase from 543 to approximately 850 and also 33% seats will also be reserved for women under the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’. Earlier this path was difficult due to opposition unity, but now with the support of Pawar, the NDA vehicle seems to be running at a gallop. If sources are to be believed, an internal agreement has been reached between BJP and Sharad Pawar.
India alliance on backfoot
This stand of Sharad Pawar has pushed the India alliance on the backfoot. While the NDA already has the support of 319 MPs, according to the Pawar faction and discussions, the figure may reach 349 after DMK’s soft stance. The government is now very close to the magical figure of 360, due to which the passing of the historic bill is considered almost certain. Pawar has proved that even though he is in an alliance, he has the power to change the game by going to any side to protect his political interests and the party.
