Ben Stokes will return to the ODI match after 3 years, will again enter the field for the county cricket team.
Ben Stokes ODI Return: Former England captain and star all-rounder Ben Stokes is going to return to One Day (ODI) cricket next week after three years. Nearly three weeks after retiring from international cricket, Stokes will now be seen playing for his county club Durham in the Metro Bank Cup.
Had said goodbye to international cricket
35-year-old Stokes can take the field for Durham in the match against Derbyshire on Tuesday. He recently retired from international cricket after the defeat in the Trent Bridge Test against New Zealand. While announcing his retirement, Stokes had said that he no longer had the energy and fight left to play international cricket.
However, Stokes had made it clear that he would continue to play county cricket. Provided his fitness remains intact, he will be available for Durham throughout the rest of the Metro Bank Cup and County Championship matches.
Training continues with Stokes’ team
Durham head coach Ryan Campbell expressed happiness over Stokes’ return, saying, ‘He has now retired from international cricket, but is fully prepared as a Durham player. He is training with the team and is busy preparing for all the matches. We have to be careful about his workload because he has played a lot of cricket, but we are very excited to have him back.’
Durham are currently top of the Second Division of the County Championship and the team are hopeful that Stokes’ presence will make a big difference in the race for promotion. In the Metro Bank Cup, he will play alongside players like Alex Lees, Emilio Gay and Ollie Robinson.
Stokes went on holidays with family
After his international retirement, Stokes went on a safari holiday with his family. After returning, he was also seen at the stadium during Durham’s T20 Blast matches, where he spent time with the fans and signed a large number of autographs.
Ryan Campbell jokingly said, ‘He is not as young as he used to be, but when it comes to competition, his passion is still the same. We hope that he will play an important role in helping the team get promotion.’

The focus is entirely on county cricket and fitness – stokes
Ben Stokes will not take part in The Hundred this year because he did not give his name in the auction held in March. However, there is a possibility of him playing franchise cricket in the winter season. Many Big Bash League teams of Australia are trying to include him with them.
Stokes has retired from international cricket, yet discussions are going on about his possible return in next year’s Ashes series. However, Stokes has made it clear many times before that at present his entire focus is on county cricket and fitness.
