Glasgow. The 2026 Commonwealth Games have reached their final stage. They will conclude today. A day before, on August 1st, Indian athletes made a remarkable impression. On Saturday, India won a total of 16 medals, including eight gold. The most impressive performance was seen in boxing, where seven athletes won gold medals.
Saturday was a historic day. It was India’s best-ever performance in boxing at the Commonwealth Games. It also marked the most medals won by an Indian in a single day at the Commonwealth Games. Seven gold medals were won by boxers, five of them women. The other male boxers who won gold were Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal.
Preeti Pawar won the first gold medal of the day and Ankush Panghal won the last. Apart from these, Soman Rana won the gold medal in Para Athletics. Shubman Juyal came second in this event and won the silver medal. Praveen Chitravel won the silver medal in men’s triple jump while Selva Prabhu won the bronze medal. Unnati Sharma won the bronze medal in Judo while Gulveer Singh won the bronze medal in the 5000 meter race.
India makes a big jump in the medal tally
India was initially ranked 10th in the medal tally, winning 23 medals, including 5 gold, 12 silver, and 6 bronze. However, the situation changed after the 10th day of play. The medal tally for the Commonwealth Games 2026 changed drastically. India not only increased its medal count, but also improved its ranking in the medal tally. On Day 10, India won 16 medals, including 8 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze. This single-day success brought its total medal tally to 39, with 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze. India also jumped from 10th to fourth in the rankings. India’s best performance at the Commonwealth Games was in Delhi in 2010, when it won a total of 101 medals, including 38 gold, finishing second in the medal tally.
