There was a stir in ISRO due to the wave of resignations of scientists, the government took strict steps
New Delhi, 16 July. The continuous resignations of scientists during the last few months have created a panic in the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Central Government is surprised by this step of the scientists.
The government has decided to take strict measures to control the stampede-like situation. In this sequence, ISRO has been specially warned about the scientists who are working on the Gaganyaan mission. Actually, the government wants that the Gaganyaan Mission should not miss its deadline under any circumstances.
Special instructions to ISRO regarding scientists associated with Gaganyaan mission
According to media reports, the Central Government has clearly instructed ISRO not to accept the resignations of scientists and technical experts associated with Gaganyaan and other important missions. It has also been said that if anyone wants VRS then it should also not be allowed for the time being. The Space Department will consider all the applications related to resignation.
Changes made by the Center as per the information receivedthey are like this –
- Resignations of Group A scientists deployed on important missions will no longer be accepted normally.
- The final approval will now be with the headquarters of the Department of Space.
- The new policy aims to prevent disruption in India’s most important space programs.
- The move follows concerns over the ‘serious’ impact of the resignation on projects of national importance.
Government took steps after resignation of about 100 scientists
According to media reports, this step of the central government has come after the resignation of about 100 scientists. However, there is controversy regarding this number. Neither the government nor the Space Department has confirmed this. But such news is running on different news channels. It is being told that about 100 scientists, including from UR Rao Satellite Center in Bengaluru and Vikram Sarabhai Space Center in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, have offered to resign.
you can close the doorbut cannot imprison talent: Singhvi
Meanwhile, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has written a post on social media on this matter, ‘You can close the doors, but you cannot imprison talent. If scientists are leaving ISRO in unprecedented numbers then the government should find out the reasons for this and not just make the process of leaving difficult. India’s space journey cannot gain momentum due to falling morale at the grassroots level.
Jitendra Singh said – This step was taken for administrative reasons
However, Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said the move was taken for administrative reasons and should not be linked to any dispute within the space agency. Responding to questions on the news of people leaving, Singh said, ‘Many people have left, many people have come.’ He said that ISRO has a large number of employees and new people keep joining continuously. The purpose of this directive was to ensure that decisions were taken at a ‘more mature level’.
While answering questions related to the future of India’s human space flight program, Jitendra Singh said that former ISRO Chairman S. There will be no impact on Gaganyaan due to Somnath leaving the agency. Somnath served as ISRO chairman till January 2025 and played an important role in missions like Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1.
He emphasized that ISRO works with institutional continuity, with former scientists and retired officers often contributing to major projects. Meanwhile, Somnath has recently joined the board of Chennai-based space startup ‘Agnikul Cosmos’ as an observer.
Many reasons are being given for migration from ISRO
However, many reasons have been given for migration from ISRO. Like – attraction of private space sector. India’s rapidly growing private space industry is actively recruiting experienced ISRO professionals with competitive salaries and leadership opportunities. The second reason cited is excessive stress at the workplace. Many scientists have cited excessive work pressure and high stress levels. Third reason – Dissatisfaction with the promotion system has been considered.
