Jimmy Tatro lands role in DC ‘Superman’ spinoff as Gorilla Grodd
Jimmy Tatro is reportedly joining the DC Universe as Gorilla Grodd in HBO Max’s upcoming Superman spinoff starring Jimmy Olsen, as per Deadline.
Despite the anticipation, HBO has not officially given the series a go ahead to move forward yet.
This update comes after Deadline previously reported that the 34-year-old actor was in discussions to take on the DC Universe as Gorilla Grodd, the hyper-intelligent, telepathic ape whose ambitions to rule both humans and apes have often been foiled by the Flash.
Framed like a true crime documentary series, the spinoff reportedly will feature Skyler Gisondo returning as Jimmy Olsen, who takes on hosting duties after his appearance in James Gunn’s Superman.
The American Vandal star also confirmed the news on Instagram, on July 15, sharing a screenshot of Deadline’s article.

“I’ve always known I was born to play a gorilla but I couldn’t have asked for a cooler one to play than Grodd,” he playfully remarked. “Beyond hyped.”
Fans shared their excitement in the comments, with one saying, “This is such a fascinating choice against type for you but I bet you’ll kill it!”
“Oh man this is such a good casting choice,” another stated.
According to reports, the first season will focus on Gorilla Grodd, the legendary DC supervillain who frequently battles the Flash.
An encounter with an alien spacecraft ended up transforming Gorilla Grodd, granting him psychic powers and other extraordinary abilities.
Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino in 1959, the character most recently featured in the Arrowverse.
Jimmy Tatro is best recognized for his role in American Vandalwhere he starred as Dylan Maxwell. He has also starred in Modern Family, 22 Jump Street, Stuber, Grown Ups 2 and more.
