400 year old cannon stolen from MP’s Narwar Fort, worth crores

A 400-year-old cannon of the Scindia state was stolen from Narwar Fort in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. The weight of this cannon was about 3500 kg. Its price in the international antique black market is said to be around Rs 3 to 5 crore. There were a total of 14 such historical cannons in the fort, now 13 are left. The thieves have committed this crime with complete planning.

 

There was an attempt to steal the cannon 10 days ago also, when the thieves had pulled down the same cannon from its original place. Due to his heavy weight, he could not be taken from there. The security guards had also lodged a complaint at Narwar police station, but the matter was not taken seriously. In the case of cannon theft, the police have registered a case and started investigation.

The miscreants stole the cannon with complete planning

According to the information received, the security personnel were not on duty in the fort on the night of the incident, they took advantage of this negligence. He had also brought loading carts with him. He first wrapped the cannon in mattresses, later lowered it about 3 thousand feet with the help of an iron trolley fitted with barring. They loaded the cannon in the loading vehicle and fled from there. This incident took place on the night of 15th July.

 

Tire marks of heavy vehicles have been seen outside the fort. Mattresses, quilts and iron pipes were also found from the spot. It is suspected that people associated with the International Antique Black Market have committed this crime. Let us tell you that all the cannons kept here are made of mixed metals like brass, copper, bronze and Ashtadhatu. Their value is in crores in the international antique black market.

The guard had left duty and gone home

A total of 6 guards have been deployed for the security of Narwar Fort. Of these, 4 guard the fort during the day and 2 at night. But both the guards were not present on duty on the night of the incident. One of them said, ‘There is no provision for night stay at the fort. There were neither torches nor security resources available there, so he went to his home at night.

The second guard has also admitted that he was not on duty at the time of the incident. He has also admitted that the story of robbery by armed criminals told to the police was false.

Police and Archeology Department team is investigating

Police and Archeology Department teams have started investigation. According to Tarun Kumar Mahobia, Deputy Director of the State Archeology Department, enough evidence has been found that the historical cannon was stolen. He said that the matter is very serious. On this incident, Narwar police station in-charge Vinay Yadav said, ‘The investigation has revealed negligence on the part of the security guards. A case has been registered against unknown accused and their search is on.
