Delhi/Patna. Counting of votes is underway for the by-elections held in two assembly seats across the country. Jansuraj Party candidate Prashant Kishore has strengthened his lead in Bihar’s Bankipur assembly seat, while Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh is ahead of the BJP candidate in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia assembly seat.
Prashant Kishor has a strong lead after the 13th round
After the 13th round of counting for the Bihar Assembly elections, Jan Suraj chief Prashant Kishor has further strengthened his lead. He has received 26,113 votes so far and is leading by a margin of 7,119 votes over BJP candidate Neeraj. BJP candidate Neeraj has received 18,994 votes, while Rekha Gupta has received 5,583 votes so far. Counting is ongoing and the picture will become clearer with the next round.
Prashant Kishor leading by 6,000 votes after the 12th round
After the 12th round of counting of votes for the by-election to the Bankipur assembly seat in Bihar, Jan Suraj Party candidate Prashant Kishor is leading by 6,646 votes over his nearest rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Neeraj Kumar. According to the Election Commission, after completion of 12 rounds of counting out of 31, Prashant Kishor has secured 23,756 votes while BJP’s Neeraj Kumar has secured 17,110 votes. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Rekha Kumari is at third place with 48,50 votes. Counting of votes for the by-election to the Bankipur assembly seat in Bihar began at 8 am on Monday. All eyes are on whether Prashant Kishor, contesting for the first time, will be successful in snatching the seat from the BJP or not.

After six rounds of counting of votes for the by-election to the Datia assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh on Monday, Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh took a lead of 1786 votes over his nearest rival Ashutosh Tiwari of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Tiwari was ahead in the first two rounds of counting. Officials said that by the end of six rounds of 15 counting, Ghanshyam Singh had secured 25,856 votes while Tiwari had secured 24,070 votes. The counting of votes began at 8 am on Monday at the Polytechnic College amid tight security arrangements.
The by-election was necessitated after Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment in a fraud case by a Delhi court in April this year and his assembly membership was terminated. A total of 21 candidates, including Ghanshyam Singh of the Congress and Ashutosh Tiwari of the BJP, are contesting the Datia by-election. 71.44 percent people exercised their franchise in the by-election held on July 30. Rajendra Bharti had defeated BJP leader and former state Home Minister Narottam Mishra by over 7,700 votes in the 2023 assembly elections.

As counting of votes for the by-election to the Manjalpur assembly seat in Gujarat continued on Monday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Satish Patel was leading by over 19,000 votes over his nearest rival and Congress candidate after 12 out of 19 rounds of counting were completed, officials said. According to election officials, after 12 rounds of counting, Patel had a lead of 19,368 votes over Congress candidate and former minister Bhikhabhai Rabari, losing 34,345 votes. Rabari has so far secured 14,977 votes.
