‘Police entered forcefully, lathi charged…’ Deepke’s claim – beat me

Social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for the last 20 days, was removed from the protest site by the police on Saturday and admitted to Safdarjung Hospital. According to reports, seeing his health deteriorating due to his long-term fast, the police took him to the hospital for treatment. However, CJP’s Abhijeet Deepke says that he was taken by force.

In the video, Deepke is seen saying that Delhi Police has taken away Sonam Wangchuk and there has been lathi charge. He said that I had gone to my friend’s place to freshen up. The police had beaten and detained me there also. He further said that after taking away Sonam Sir, they have released me, but are still not allowing me to enter Jantar Mantar.

What appeal did Deepke make to the public?

Deepke said that we will have to hold peaceful demonstrations across the country. They forcefully picked up Sonam sir and beat me. All the students here have been lathicharged. In such a situation, you should protest in your respective areas. We have to answer that dictatorship will not continue in this country. We will not tolerate what has happened to the student and Sonam sir.

Police reached Jantar Mantar on Saturday morning and took Sonam Wangchuk to the hospital. After this, the protesters present at Jantar Mantar also started being removed from there. During this action, Cockroach Janata Party workers protested and raised slogans. These workers are leading the ongoing movement against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Action taken after Delhi High Court hearing?

The action of taking Sonam Wangchuk to the hospital was taken after the hearing in Delhi High Court regarding her deteriorating health condition. Two days before this, the High Court had directed the officials to conduct daily medical examination of Wangchuk.

The court had said that “the life of every citizen is precious” and ordered the authorities to regularly monitor their health and provide necessary medical care if needed.

The DCP further said that while following the order of the High Court, some protesters tried to disrupt the proceedings, which created an atmosphere of chaos for some time. However, the police completed the entire operation with restraint and safely. The police also appealed to the protesters present at Jantar Mantar to vacate the protest site peacefully.

Doctors had expressed concern about health

There was constant concern being expressed in the medical bulletin issued regarding the health condition of Sonam Wangchuk. In the health update released two days ago, doctors had said that during the hunger strike his weight had lost more than 8 kg and his health was continuously deteriorating.

For what demand were you on hunger strike?

Sonam Wangchuk was on a hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the alleged NEET paper leak case. In the last few days, many opposition leaders had reached Jantar Mantar and met Sonam Wangchuk. Expressing concern over his deteriorating health, the leaders had also appealed to him to end his hunger strike. Those who met Wangchuk included Congress leader Pawan Kheda, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal. Meanwhile, the protesters have announced to take out a Parliament march on July 20, i.e. the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
