Echo of Sonam Wangchuk’s movement reached America, human rights activists gathered outside the Indian Embassy in Washington.

Washington. Activists from human rights organizations in the US came together in support of social activist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on hunger strike to protest alleged irregularities in the examination system including NEET exam in India. Activists associated with US-based organizations ‘Hindus for Human Rights’ and ‘Azadi Project’ gathered near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near the Indian Embassy in Washington on Friday evening. The protesters were holding placards with messages in support of Wangchuk.

Protestors raised demand for resignation of Education Minister

During the demonstration, activists raised slogans against the Indian government and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protesters demanded transparency in the examination system and an impartial investigation into alleged irregularities. Human rights organizations said that the government should negotiate on the demands of the protesters and find a solution to the issue through dialogue.

Wangchuk is fasting at Jantar Mantar from June 28

Sonam Wangchuk is on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi since June 28. Their movement is going on in protest against the alleged irregularities in the country’s examination system, including the NEET exam. Wangchuk’s major demands include improving the examination system and fixing accountability in this matter. He is also demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The organization has already appealed for talks with the government

Earlier this week, Hindus for Human Rights appealed to the Indian government to talk to Sonam Wangchuk and other protesters and listen to their concerns. The organization had said that in a democratic system, problems should be solved through dialogue.

Increased support in America

Through this demonstration in Washington, some human rights activists present in America expressed support for Wangchuk’s movement. The protesters prominently raised issues related to improvement in the education system and the interests of students.
