India clarified that talks and cooperation between the two countries on the project are progressing well.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a media briefing on Friday that India and Japan are continuously working in coordination on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. He said that both the countries have a common goal to complete the project as soon as possible.

In fact, former Japanese Minister Hideki Maehara had raised questions on India regarding the delay in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project by posting a post on the social media platform. He had alleged that India was not fulfilling its promises related to the project on time, due to which the pace of the project was affected. After his comment, the Indian government responded by saying that the allegations regarding delay in the project are not true and cooperation between the two countries is continuing at the technical and administrative level.

India told the status of the project

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed ​​Rail project is progressing as per schedule. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the first section of the project is targeted to start operations in 2027. Japan’s E-20 trains are expected to be delivered in the early 2030s. This train is still in the construction process. India and Japan have agreed to operate the Indian high speed rail system. He said that orders for signal equipment related to train operation are also being placed as per this plan.

The Foreign Ministry said that no separate proposal had been received from Japan regarding signal equipment. Both countries are moving forward as per pre-determined plans and technical standards. India said that there are continuous talks between the two sides regarding the project and any technical or administrative issues are being resolved through mutual cooperation.
