Another Blow To Azam Khan: Another blow to Azam Khan, Sessions Court upheld two years imprisonment in controversial statement against DM

Rampur. Former UP minister and senior SP leader Azam Khan has suffered another setback. The MP/MLA court had sentenced Azam Khan to two years’ imprisonment in the case of calling the DM of Rampur a ‘tankhaiya’. Against which Azam Khan had appealed in the sessions court. Rampur Sessions Court on Saturday rejected Azam Khan’s appeal and upheld the trial court’s decision. Now Azam Khan will have to appeal against this in Allahabad High Court.

This matter is during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. At that time there was an alliance between SP and Mayawati’s BSP. Azam Khan also contested Lok Sabha elections for the first time. The then SDM Ghanshyam Tripathi had filed a case against Azam Khan in Rampur’s Bhot police station for making a controversial statement. It was said in the complaint that Azam Khan campaigned at one place by standing on the vehicle. Where Azam Khan said that do not be afraid of the collector. This is a salaryman. Not afraid of salary.

Azam had further said to him – Have you seen the photo of Mayawati ji. How senior officers take out handkerchiefs and clean their shoes. There is an alliance with them only. If Allah wishes, I will get his shoes cleaned. Due to the evidence of Azam Khan’s statement, the MP/MLA court had on May 16 convicted the SP leader and former minister and sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000. Azam Khan appealed in the sessions court. Where the government lawyer on behalf of the UP government objected to his arguments. After hearing the arguments of Azam Khan and the government lawyer, the Sessions Court upheld the sentence. Azam Khan is currently in jail in another case. His lawyer has said that he will challenge the session court’s decision in the High Court.
