Hydrogen is being seen as a clean energy option around the world. The biggest feature of this train is that it will help in reducing carbon emissions. Hydrogen fuel cell technology is considered cleaner and more sustainable than diesel-powered trains. Apart from this, the need for maintenance can also be reduced. The design speed of this hydrogen train is 110 kilometers per hour. However, it is currently allowed to run at a maximum speed of 75 kilometers per hour. The train has a seating capacity of about 2600 passengers, making it useful for a large number of passengers.

Country’s biggest hydrogen facility ready in Jind

The country’s largest hydrogen storage and refueling facility has been prepared in Jind, Haryana to run the hydrogen train. About 3000 kg of hydrogen can be stored at a time in this facility. Necessary licenses have also been given for this project by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO). This includes permission for storage and dispensing of compressed hydrogen gas.

The introduction of hydrogen trains signals a technological transformation for Indian Railways. In the coming time, increasing use of such technologies can help Railways in energy saving, pollution control and environmental protection.
