Uttar Pradesh Monsoon Update: Waterlogging in Gorakhpur, water in Pratapgarh SP office, Ganga water level increased in Varanasi.

Monsoon has again gained momentum in Uttar Pradesh and after heavy rains in Gorakhpur, many parts of the city are submerged in water. Major roads looked like bottoms and cars parked at many places were half submerged in water. Due to waterlogging, citizens are facing major problems in transportation. Duchakiswarana faced the biggest problem and vehicles got stuck in water at many places.

Due to incessant rains, dry areas are filled with water. Due to the drainage system being affected in many farms and markets, there is standing water in front of houses and shops. The Municipal Corporation is trying to drain the water from the roads, but due to continuous rain it is taking time for the situation to become normal in many places.

Extensive results of rain were visible in Pratapgarh itself. Here, office work was affected due to water logging in the Superintendent of Police (SP) office area. Employees faced difficulties in moving after the area was filled with water. The administration has started drainage system by installing pumping machines to take out the water.

Due to continuous rains in Varanasi and increased water flow from upstream, the water table of river Ganga has increased. The lower steps on many ghats have been drained of water. In view of safety, the administration has increased extra vigil on the ghats and has appealed to the devotees to be cautious during the fast flow of the river.

Due to increase in Ganga water level, the venue of Ganga Aarti has changed. Giving priority to the safety of the devotees, Aarti is organized at a high and safe place, so that no danger is created due to rising water level. The administration and ghat management committee are constantly keeping an eye on the situation.

According to the Meteorological Department, the rainy period may continue for the next few days in many districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain with thunder. Therefore, as there is a possibility of water logging in dry areas, riverine residents have been advised to be especially cautious.

The administration has appealed to the citizens to avoid going through waterlogged roads, stay away from light poles and broken electrical wires and to immediately inform the concerned departments in case of any emergency. The residents of the riverbanks are advised to follow the instructions given by the administration while keeping the water level in mind.

At present, the concern of the administration has increased due to waterlogging in Gorakhpur, seepage of water in government offices in Pratapgarh and increasing floods of Ganga in Varanasi. According to the Meteorological Department, rains are likely to continue in the coming days and citizens have been advised to remain alert.
