Dark clouds of crisis on 8th Pay Commission? Justice Ranjana Desai gets new responsibility
A big news has come for lakhs of central employees and pensioners who are waiting for the Eighth Pay Commission. There is a lot of agitation these days among the employees who have been waiting for a salary hike for a long time. The reason for this stir is a new decision of the West Bengal government, which has increased the concerns of the employees. It is reported that the government has constituted a high-level committee, the command of which has been handed over to Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.
What is the whole matter and why is there an uproar?
In fact, recently the West Bengal government has formed a 9-member high-level expert committee to review the draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) 2026. The responsibility of this important committee has been given to retired Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. As soon as this news became public, discussions have heated up among employees and pensioners working in government offices from Delhi to Kolkata.
Employees are worried about delays
There is a solid reason behind why employees are upset. Justice Ranjana Desai is already serving as the chairperson of the 8th Central Pay Commission. Now after getting a new and bigger responsibility, the employees are afraid whether it will affect the work of the Pay Commission? People fear that due to the new responsibility the work of the Commission may slow down and there may be further delay in coming the report with recommendations. Although, no such indication has been received officially from the Central Government or the Commission, but this concern of the employees is continuously increasing.
NPS employees union raised questions
All India NPS Employees Federation has also given its response on this issue. National President of the federation Manjit Singh Patel congratulated Justice Desai for his new responsibility through social media, but also raised a big question. He has clearly asked whether with this new appointment the 8th Pay Commission report will come within the stipulated time limit?
At present lakhs of central employees and pensioners are eagerly waiting for the recommendations of the Commission. Everyone’s eyes are on when the commission will submit its report and how much increase in salaries and pensions can be expected from it. The meetings of the Commission are still going on and the employees are hopeful that the results of their hard work will soon emerge in a positive form.
