The political temperature in Bihar has been on the rise since the results of the by-election in the Bankipur assembly constituency, which has become a hot seat in Bihar, were announced. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the capital, Delhi, sparking a flurry of discussions in political circles. This high-profile meeting, which took place just a day after the BJP’s crushing defeat in Bankipur, has drawn attention to the secret discussions between the two leaders.
This crucial meeting took place in the shadow of the Bankipur defeat.
When the results of the Bankipur Assembly by-election were announced on Monday, August 3, 2026, political analysts began their own assessments. The very next day, on Tuesday, Bihar’s powerful leader and JDU national president Nitish Kumar went straight to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He was accompanied by senior Janata Dal United (JDU) leader and Union Minister Lallan Singh and the party’s National Executive President Sanjay Kumar Jha during this important meeting. This meeting, held immediately after the election results, has sparked speculation in political circles about its significance.
Was there really any political discussion? Lallan Singh broke his silence.
The biggest question on everyone’s mind was what transpired behind closed doors between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar. Lifting the veil of this mystery, Union Minister Lallan Singh addressed the media and described the meeting as completely “informal.”
Lallan Singh clarified that Nitish Kumar had arrived there in his capacity as a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament. He added that Nitish Kumar had gone to meet the Prime Minister in his capacity as a Rajya Sabha MP and that this should not be seen as any kind of formal political meeting.
“We all have to work together to take Bihar forward” – PM Modi’s message
When Lallan Singh was asked what conversation took place between the two stalwarts during this time, he said that Nitish Kumar has always been very concerned about the development of Bihar.
During this meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi clearly stated that we must all work together, in coordination, to accelerate Bihar’s development. PM Modi’s primary focus was on working towards making Bihar a fully developed state.
Sanjay Jha shared the pictures on social media.
Following the meeting, JDU National Executive President Sanjay Kumar Jha shared pictures of the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Nitish Kumar from his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
He wrote in his social media post that today, along with JDU National President, Rajya Sabha MP, and former Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar, he had the privilege of having a cordial meeting with Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Parliament House. During this special meeting, a very meaningful discussion took place on many important topics related to the development of Bihar as well as the entire Northeast India, in which Union Minister Lallan Singh was also specially present.
