Jaipur, 05 August 2026: The Rajasthan High Court has granted 20 days parole to 87-year-old Asaram, lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail.
The police had expressed apprehension that Asaram might abscond after being released on parole. Terming this apprehension as baseless, the court has granted him parole for 20 days.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice of the High Court Sanjiv Prakash Sharma and Justice Sanjit Purohit observed during the hearing of the parole application that the police’s apprehensions had no solid basis.
The state law department’s lawyer informed the court that the application seeking parole for Asaram was rejected during a meeting chaired by the Jodhpur District Collector and District Magistrate.
Asaram’s lawyers Kaluram Bhati and Yashpal Singh argued in support of the petition.
Citing Rule 14(a) of the ‘Rajasthan Prisoners on Parole Rules, 1958’, the police said that criminal cases have been registered against Asaram outside Rajasthan.
The High Court noted that Asaram has been in jail for 13 years, one month and 24 days. During this period, he was earlier granted interim bail. There is no record of him abusing bail or threatening witnesses.
The High Court has granted parole on the condition of a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of Rs 25,000 each.
