As the size of families in India is growing, the demand for family-friendly 7-seater SUVs is also going up. As a result, a lot of people are now planning to buy 7-seater SUVs, and if you are also someone who falls into the same category, then here is the list of 10 upcoming 7-seater SUVs in India.
Renault has recently launched its mid-size SUV, Duster, in India. Now, it is preparing to expand its SUV portfolio with the launch of the Boreal. It is expected to arrive in the second half of 2026, and this three-row SUV will become the brand’s flagship offering in India.
The Boreal will also be built on the same CMF-B modular platform, and it will feature a 2.74-metre wheelbase and an overall length of more than 4.5 metres. Although it will take inspiration from the Duster’s design, the India-spec version is expected to get styling changes compared to the international model, which has already been showcased.
On the inside, the Renault Boreal is expected to offer the same premium feature list as the Duster, including a panoramic sunroof, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It will also get an Arkamys premium sound system, powered front seats, wireless charging, selectable drive and terrain modes, and Level 2 ADAS.
Powertrain options are expected to include the same 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.8-litre strong hybrid system featuring a 1.4 kWh battery pack and two electric motors as the Duster. Most likely, the smaller 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will not be offered on the Boreal.
Kia has also been testing the new-generation Sorento on Indian roads for quite some time now. Internally codenamed MQ4i, this premium three-row SUV is expected to make its debut by the end of 2026. Recent spy shots have suggested that the India-spec Sorento will look very similar to the international model.
It is expected to feature the same LED headlamps and daytime running lights, alloy wheels, and overall silhouette. As for the cabin, it will come loaded with features, including dual 12.3-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, powered and ventilated front seats, and several premium convenience features. Under the bonnet, Kia is expected to offer a new 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol hybrid powertrain for the Indian market. Pricing will be around Rs 30 to 40 lakh.
Toyota is also gearing up to launch the larger version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder for buyers looking for an affordable three-row SUV. A test mule of this SUV was spotted in Ladakh, and the upcoming model is expected to launch around the festive season of 2026.
When compared to the standard Hyryder, the new SUV will feature a longer wheelbase, a stretched body, and a larger rear overhang to accommodate an additional row of seats. Its overall dashboard layout and feature list are expected to remain unchanged.
However, the addition of the third row will make it a much more practical option for bigger families. Mechanically, Toyota will continue to offer both the 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol and the 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol powertrains.
Hyundai is reportedly also working on an all-new three-row SUV. It is currently known by its codename, Ni1i. This SUV is expected to make its debut in 2027. The Ni1i is expected to share its underpinnings with the upcoming Kia Sorento and will rival models such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. Hyundai is also expected to equip it with the same strong hybrid powertrain as the Sorento.
Following the launch of the Renault Boreal, Nissan will launch its own version of the SUV in early 2027. However, the company has clarified that it will not simply be a stretched Tekton. Instead, it will receive its own unique styling inspired by Nissan’s latest global SUV design language.
The exterior and interior are expected to take inspiration from the larger Nissan Patrol. Like the Boreal, Nissan’s SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine. However, it will not get the 1.8-litre strong hybrid powertrain.
Tata Motors is also gearing up to introduce the all-electric version of its flagship SUV, Safari.ev, in India. It will become the company’s flagship EV once launched later this year. Its test mules have already been spotted on public roads. The Safari.ev is expected to be based on Tata’s Acti.EV+ architecture, the same platform underpinning the Harrier.ev.
This means that buyers can expect battery pack options of 65 kWh and 75 kWh. There are reports that it could get an 80 kWh battery pack as well, and the maximum range could be around 550 to 600 km. The standard variants will most likely get the rear-wheel-drive setup. Meanwhile, the higher variants may offer dual-motor AWD like the Harrier.ev.
MG is expected to enter the plug-in hybrid SUV segment with the launch of the Wuling Starlight 520-based Hector Hawk around the festive season of 2026. This SUV will be offered in both plug-in hybrid and fully electric forms.
The plug-in hybrid version will combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 20.5 kWh battery pack and a front-mounted electric motor, producing 197 hp and 230 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the electric version will use a 56.7 kWh battery pack paired with a 136 bhp front-mounted motor with 200 Nm of torque. MG claims it will offer a range of around 500 km for the EV.
On the inside, the SUV will feature a minimalist cabin with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a six-speaker audio system, and automatic climate control. Once launched, it is expected to rival the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.
Mahindra will soon be giving a major update to its popular 7-seater SUV, the Scorpio-N. It will be launched around the festive season. The SUV will most likely feature a redesigned front grille, updated LED headlamps, revised DRLs, new front and rear bumpers, redesigned fog lamps, and larger 19-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin is also expected to get a number of upgrades. These will include a panoramic sunroof, an electronic parking brake, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and ventilated front seats. Powertrain options will remain the same – 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engines will continue with both manual and automatic gearbox options.
Alongside the Scorpio-N, Mahindra is also working on an update for the Scorpio Classic. The changes on the Scorpio Classic will be minor but will give it a refreshed look. The facelift will most likely include a revised grille, refreshed bumpers, and updated lighting elements. On the inside, we can expect an improved touchscreen infotainment system, better upholstery materials, and additional charging options to improve day-to-day usability. Powertrain will remain the same.
Jeep is also expected to update the Meridian; however, it will focus mainly on the powertrain. Reports have suggested that the SUV could get Tata Motors’ new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine develops 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque in the Tata Harrier and Safari. It is expected to offer a good balance of performance and efficiency in the Meridian as well. Apart from the new engine, the SUV is unlikely to get any major design or feature changes.
