Bengaluru: Kannada actor and former Bigg Boss Kannada contestant Aishwarya Sindogi has filed a police complaint alleging sustained online harassment through abusive and derogatory comments posted on her social media accounts. Following her complaint, an FIR has been registered at Sanjaynagar Police Station, and an investigation has been initiated.
Actor alleges sustained online harassment
According to the complaint, Aishwarya Sindogi has been receiving offensive and objectionable comments on content shared across her social media platforms. She has alleged that the abuse has continued over a period of time and has now sought police intervention.
The actor has also named a person known to her in connection with the case. She alleged that the individual had previously threatened her, resulting in an earlier police complaint.
Aishwarya further claimed that abusive messages are now being posted using fake social media accounts. She has requested the police to identify the people operating these accounts and take appropriate legal action against those responsible.
FIR registered, police begin investigation
Based on the complaint, Sanjaynagar Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched an investigation into the matter.
Police are expected to examine the social media accounts mentioned in the complaint and trace the origin of the alleged abusive posts. The investigation will also look into whether the comments were made through fake profiles and if they are linked to the individual named by the actor.
Officials are yet to disclose further details as the investigation remains in its initial stages.
Online abuse against Kannada actors under spotlight
The latest complaint once again highlights the issue of online harassment faced by public figures, particularly women actors in the Kannada film industry.
In recent months, actor Ramya and Vijayalakshmi Darshan, wife of actor Darshan, also approached the police after allegedly receiving abusive comments on social media. In those cases, the Cyber Crime Police investigated the complaints, identified individuals allegedly responsible for posting the offensive remarks and made arrests.
The recurring incidents have renewed discussions about cyberbullying, anonymous trolling and the misuse of fake social media accounts to target celebrities.
Growing focus on cyber harassment
Law enforcement agencies have increasingly taken action against online abuse, encouraging victims to report threatening or defamatory content rather than ignore it. Authorities have also urged social media users to maintain responsible online behaviour, warning that abusive posts, threats and harassment can attract legal consequences under applicable laws.
Aishwarya Sindogi’s complaint adds to the growing number of cyber harassment cases being pursued through legal channels, underscoring the importance of digital accountability and stronger action against anonymous online abuse.
