EV Jobs India: The electric vehicle market in India is expanding rapidly and could become one of the largest employment sectors in the country in the coming years. A new report by talent solutions company Adecco India has revealed that 30 million to 40 million new jobs are expected to be created in the EV industry by 2030. The report also estimates that recruitment in this sector could increase by 15 to 20 percent every year. In such a situation, this could prove to be a big opportunity for youth pursuing careers in engineering, battery technology and automobile sector.
Not just cars, jobs will increase across the entire EV ecosystem
The report states that the scope of electric vehicles is no longer limited to cars. Demand for electric two-wheelers, buses, commercial vehicles, and public transport is also growing rapidly. Consequently, this industry will no longer be limited to vehicle manufacturing but will also create significant employment opportunities in areas such as battery manufacturing, charging infrastructure, battery recycling, electronics, and energy management.
Employment will be available both directly and indirectly
The report also states that 10 to 15 percent of the total jobs created by 2030 will be directly employed, while 85 to 90 percent of jobs will be indirectly created in areas related to the EV sector. These include sectors such as supply chain, logistics, service networks, charging stations, and battery manufacturing. Based on data from more than 100 companies, the report predicts a rapid increase in demand for specialists in areas such as battery technology, semiconductors, power electronics, motor design, and energy systems.
India can become a global EV hub
According to Deepesh Gupta, Director and Head of General Staffing at Adecco India, India currently accounts for approximately 4% of the global passenger EV market and 17% of the electric two-wheeler market. He believes that if the country strengthens its manufacturing capacity and skilled workforce, India can play a major role in the global EV supply chain. Several states are implementing new EV policies, which are expected to further accelerate the industry.
The scope of permanent jobs will also increase
The report also suggests that initially, 40 to 50 percent of jobs may be contract or flexi-staffing, but over time, a significant number of these jobs could transform into permanent employment. Sectors like battery recycling and EV charging infrastructure are expected to see rapid growth over the next few years. This will not only increase employment but also contribute to Make in India, energy security, and achieving the goal of net-zero emissions by 2070.
