Protest in America in support of Sonam Wangchuk, workers gathered in New York and San Jose
Washington. Demonstrations were held in America in support of social activist Sonam Wangchuk. Activists from the US-based rights group demonstrated in New York and San Jose in solidarity with Wangchuk, who is on an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET exam.
Protestors demand resignation of Education Minister
According to the information, activists of ‘Hindus for Human Rights’ gathered near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Union Square and San Jose in New York City on Monday evening. The protesters held placards and raised slogans in support of Wangchuk and expressed their concerns over issues related to the NEET exam.
During the demonstration, the workers also raised slogans against the Indian government and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The organization said in a statement issued on Tuesday that similar demonstrations were also held outside the Indian High Commission in London and the Indian Embassy in Dublin.
Appeal for talks with the government
The organization said that through these demonstrations an attempt was made to convey the message that Indian students should be treated with fairness and respect. The group appealed to the Indian government to talk to Wangchuk and others protesting over alleged irregularities in the NEET exam.
Wangchuk was on hunger strike for more than three weeks
It is noteworthy that Sonam Wangchuk was on hunger strike for more than three weeks. After his health deteriorated, Delhi Police took him from the protest site at Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday. He was later shifted to a private hospital following the Delhi High Court order. Through these demonstrations in America, the protesters raised the demand for a transparent examination system and accountability for the students.
