PM Modi’s high-level review meeting on the goal of ‘Developed India’: Emphasis on citizen welfare and holistic governance

New Delhi, 22 July. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting of Secretaries to review the progress made towards the goals of ‘Developed India’ in rural development, agriculture, social welfare and related sectors at his residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. In the meeting, there was a detailed discussion on effective implementation, better coordination between departments and accelerating the pace of development.

Citizen welfare should be at the center of reforms

PM Modi stressed that the welfare of citizens should be at the center of all reforms. Reforms should not be limited to improving government processes but should be aimed at accelerating the pace of making the country a developed nation. He stressed on carrying forward policies and reforms as per the needs of the people.

Governance system should evolve according to changing times

He said that in accordance with the rapidly changing global and national scenario, change in the governance system is also necessary. He suggested the ministries and departments to make the administrative processes more effective and modern by timely identifying the emerging needs.

Call for ‘whole of government’ approach

The Prime Minister stressed the need to adopt a ‘Whole of Government’ approach to achieve development goals. He called for eliminating the barriers existing between departments and developing better coordination and shared work culture.

Emphasis on making ‘Developed India’ a mass movement

PM Modi said that the resolution of ‘Developed India’ should not just be a government program but should become a people’s movement. He said that the youth of the country are the strongest foundation of this campaign and the goal of a developed India can be achieved only with their active participation.

Need for coordinated campaign against drugs

Expressing concern over the increasing drug abuse among the youth, the Prime Minister said that better coordination and institutional arrangements should be developed between departments to deal with it. He stressed on coordinated efforts to empower the youth.

Aim to make India a global sports center

PM Modi stressed the need to adopt an integrated approach for the development of the sports sector. He said that India should work towards establishing itself as a global sports hub by hosting major international sports events. Emphasis was also laid on encouraging startups and technological innovation in the sports sector.

Focus on PM-KUSUM scheme and global skill demand

The Prime Minister said that by adopting the PM-KUSUM scheme on a large scale, comprehensive changes in the agriculture sector are possible. He also underlined the need to formulate skill development strategies in line with future global needs and assess international employment opportunities.

Secretaries shared experiences and suggestions

In the meeting, secretaries of various ministries informed the Prime Minister about the ongoing initiatives, challenges and experiences in their respective areas. The Prime Minister shared his suggestions for the future action plan and stressed on effective implementation and coordinated efforts in all areas. Cabinet Secretaries, Secretaries of key ministries and senior officials of the Prime Minister’s Office were also present in the meeting.
