Jantar Mantar Protest Additional DCP Sandeep Lamba who beat the woman?
On July 20, there was a Parliament march by students and Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, in which huge ruckus was seen. During this time, the police had prevented the students from reaching the Parliament by beating them with sticks and firing tear gas shells. Many videos of this uproar are going viral on social media, seeing which there is huge anger among the people against Delhi Police. In a video that went viral on social media, Delhi Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Sandeep Lamba was seen allegedly slapping and pushing a female protestor.
After the video surfaced, protests have started regarding this incident. Amidst the growing controversy, Delhi Police has taken action and removed Sandeep Lamba from the duty of Jantar Mantar protest site. At the same time, the echo of this matter has reached the Delhi High Court, where the court has sought a reply from the Delhi Police on the entire incident.
What allegations did Abhijeet Deepke make?
Krokoch Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Deepke and other activists have alleged that Sandeep Lamba also misbehaved with social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Geetanjali during the protest. According to the allegations, her hair was pulled and she was physically assaulted. Meanwhile, a video of a mic being broken at the protest site also surfaced, which made the whole matter more controversial.
Delhi High Court asked for answer
After the incident reached the Delhi High Court, the court has sought answers from the Delhi Police on this entire incident. After taking cognizance of the court, Delhi Police decided to remove Sandeep Lamba from Jantar Mantar duty with immediate effect. They have been directed to report back to their native district and will not be deployed on duty at any protest site for the time being.
Who is Sandeep Lamba?
Sandeep Lamba was born on 2 February 1982. He is a 2011 batch officer of Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS). In December 2024, he was appointed to the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Additional DCP-I) in North-East Delhi district. During his police service, he has played a role in the investigation of many important cases.
Sandeep Lamba was awarded the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation in the year 2021. Apart from this, he was also a part of the team investigating the North-East Delhi riots in the year 2020. He has been recognized in the police department as an experienced and investigation-oriented officer.
