Glasgow 2026: Indian culture will resonate on the stage of Commonwealth Games, Shankar Mahadevan-Rashmika Mandanna will perform
Glasgow. Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and Bollywood actress Rashmika Mandanna will play a lead role in India’s cultural presentation at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2026 to be held at the ‘Hydro’ in Glasgow on August 2. During this ceremony, the Commonwealth Games flag will be officially handed over to India, which will symbolize the formal handing over of the responsibility of hosting the 2030 edition to be held in Ahmedabad.
Shankar Mahadevan and Rashmika Mandanna will represent India
Shankar Mahadevan is an Indian playback singer, composer and music director who rose to fame with the 1998 pop album ‘Breathless’. He is also a member of the famous Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio, which has composed music for many Indian films. Whereas, Rashmika Mandanna is an Indian actress, who works in Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films. She is known for her performances in the Telugu hit ‘Geeta Govindam’ as well as the pan-India blockbusters ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ and ‘Animal’.
Many international artists will also perform
The closing ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will also feature Scottish rock band Simple Minds, best known for global hits like ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ and ‘Alive and Kicking’. She will also be joined by Australian singer Delta Goodrem, who is returning to the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony 20 years after performing at Melbourne 2006. Apart from this, Scottish artists Cammy Barnes, Sandy Thom, award winning folk-electronic band ‘Elephant Sessions’ and vocalist Sherin Cutkelvin will also perform.
India’s presentation will last for 20 minutes
India’s portion of the closing ceremony is expected to last for about 20 minutes. It will mark the beginning of the Centenary Commonwealth Games and will showcase India’s cultural heritage through music, dance and traditional performances.
Commonwealth Games 2030 will be organized in Ahmedabad
In November, Ahmedabad (also known as Ahmedabad) was announced as the host city of the Commonwealth Games 2030. This will be the 100th edition of the multi-sport event. The Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad, New Delhi will be the second time since 2010 that India will host the multi-sport event.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games was the only time India won more than 100 medals in a single edition of the Games. This was the country’s most successful campaign so far in these games. India’s 101 medals (which included 38 gold) took it to second place in the medal tally. A total of 125 Indian players will compete for medals in the Commonwealth Games 2026 to be held from July 23 to August 2.
