Mahindra is working extensively on its new range of SUVs. One of them is the Vision S, which was showcased as a concept last year. We have already seen multiple videos of the test mule on our roads. It looks like Mahindra is almost ready with the production version, as we recently came across a video where the company was seen testing the upcoming Vision S in the mountains.
The video was shared by Adventure Addicted on its Instagram page. It was recorded by someone who was on a road trip in the mountains. In the video, the person says that he spotted the vehicle in the Spiti region. We see a fully camouflaged SUV being driven on rough mountain roads.
The SUV is undoubtedly undergoing testing, and the vehicle seen here is the Mahindra Vision S. The SUV in the video looks different from the test mules that we have seen so far. The major differences are the headlamps and the grille. All the earlier test mules featured a different front-end design. The test mule seen here had new headlamps that looked similar to those seen on the concept showcased last year.
It features a 7-shaped all-LED lighting unit with a drop-down design for the LED DRLs and turn indicators. The front grille on the SUV also looks slightly different from the previous test mules. We see vertical slats with a thick vertical strip in the centre, where we are likely to see the Mahindra logo. On the lower air dam, we can also spot a cover for the radar module. We can also see a camera mounted on the front windshield, which suggests that this SUV could come with Level 2 ADAS.
The SUV has ample ground clearance, which is clearly visible in the video. It effortlessly drives through the rough roads, and it is possible that Mahindra might offer a version of its Da Vinci suspension setup with the Vision S for improved ride quality.
The boxy design of the SUV is clearly evident in the video. As the camera pans to the rear, we see wide rear fenders, an almost vertical tailgate with a small rear windshield, and a spare wheel mounted on it. The spare wheel and the alloy wheels on the Vision S also look similar to the 18-inch units that were initially seen on the XUV700. It is possible that the production version will get a different alloy wheel design.
The tail lamps on the test mule were also not production-ready units. Images and videos of the Vision S cabin have already surfaced online, and just like the exterior, the interior closely resembles the concept version. It gets X-shaped trims around the AC vents, a layered dashboard, a touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and more.
The Vision S is based on Mahindra’s NU-IQ platform, and the SUV is expected to be offered in ICE and EV forms, with a hybrid version possibly arriving in the future. The ICE version of the Vision S is expected to be available with both petrol and diesel engine options, and there are rumours that certain variants may also get an AWD system. Mahindra is expected to launch the Vision S only in 2027.
