Toyota Hilux Launch – Will India Get The Overland Variant?
Toyota will be launching the new-generation Hilux in the Indian market later this month. The official launch of the pickup truck is scheduled for July 28, 2026. Toyota has already released teaser videos ahead of its launch. As we already know, Toyota has already unveiled and launched the Hilux in several Asian markets, where it is offered in multiple variants.
In markets like Thailand, Toyota offers the Hilux in both single-cab and dual-cab versions. The dual-cab model is available in two variants. One is the regular Hilux, while the other is called the Overland.
In Thailand, Toyota sells the pickup truck as the Hilux Travo Prerunner & 4TREX and the Hilux Travo Overland. Both versions of the Hilux are different from each other. The Travo Prerunner is primarily a road-focused version, while the Overland variant, as the name suggests, has a much more rugged appearance. The Overland version gets 18-inch alloy wheels, while the other variants come with 17-inch wheels. As a result, there is a slight difference in ground clearance.
While the front grille on both versions looks the same, the front bumper is slightly different. The Overland variant gets a much more aggressive-looking front bumper with rugged skid plates. It also comes with a roll bar, which is absent on the regular version. The Hilux Travo Prerunner variant is available only with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and an automatic transmission.
The 4TREX variant, on the other hand, is available with both RWD and 4×4 drivetrain options. However, it is offered only with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Coming to the Overland variant, it is also available with both RWD and 4×4 configurations. The top-spec Overland 4TREX variant comes with a proper 4×4 transfer case, a rear differential lock, and an automatic transmission.
Both the Prerunner and Overland variants of the Toyota Hilux are powered by the same 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine. This is the same engine that is available in the current Hilux. It produces 204 PS and 500 Nm of peak torque.
The all-new Toyota Hilux measures 5,320 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width, and 1,815 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,085 mm. The ground clearance stands at 224 mm for the standard variants and 225 mm for the Overland variant.

The Toyota Hilux is an extremely popular lifestyle pickup truck among off-road enthusiasts in India. The current-generation Hilux is offered in a single trim level, with both manual and automatic transmission options paired with a 4×4 drivetrain. Just like the outgoing model, the upcoming Hilux is also expected to be offered in a single variant.
We are likely to get the Overland variant of the Hilux in India, and it could be offered with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. As for pricing, the current Hilux is priced between ₹28.5 lakh and ₹36 lakh (ex-showroom). With an increase in features and creature comforts, we expect the new-generation Hilux to be priced slightly higher than the outgoing model.
