Mercedes-Benz India, expanding its popular E-Class portfolio, has launched the new ‘AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+’, a powerful plug-in hybrid sedan in the Indian market. It is the first plug-in hybrid AMG sedan car in the E-Class series and is available in two variants. The performance edition is priced at ₹1.45 crore (ex-showroom) and the racing edition is priced at ₹1.48 crore (ex-showroom).

Engine and Performance

The car is powered by a 3.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that works with an electric motor. Both together generate 585 hp of power and 750 Nm of torque. Activating the ‘Race Start’ mode in the car temporarily boosts its power to 612 hp, allowing the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Its top speed is 250 km/h, but this speed can be increased to 280 km/h by opting for the ‘AMG Driver’s Package’. This plug-in hybrid system allows the car to run more than 100 km on battery alone, making everyday commuting possible without consuming fuel.

Key driving technology

The car comes with an all-wheel-drive system along with ‘Active Rear-Axle Steering’, which allows the car’s rear wheels to steer up to 2.5 degrees. This makes the car easier to turn in the city or at low speeds and provides better stability at higher speeds on the highway.

Speaking at the launch, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said that the E-Class is one of the oldest and most popular brand names in the Indian automobile industry. The new AMG E 53 Hybrid brings together outstanding performance, everyday usability and electric efficiency.
