The domestic stock market witnessed a decline in early trading on Friday. The key indices, Sensex and Nifty, opened in the red due to rising crude oil prices and selling pressure in financial sector stocks. The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 235.36 points to 78,699.80 in early trading. The 50-share NSE Nifty slipped 24.30 points to 24,608.25.
These stocks declined
Among Sensex-listed companies, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Trent, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, and Eternal were trading with weakness. Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, and Infosys were trading with gains.
Rise in crude oil prices
The price of Brent crude, the international oil benchmark, rose 1.16 percent to $83.45 per barrel. The rise in crude oil prices also impacted domestic market sentiment. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹178.6 million on a net basis on Thursday.
Asian markets mixed
In other Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi and Japan’s Nikkei-225 were trading lower. China’s SSE index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were in the green. Earlier on Thursday, the Sensex closed at 78,954.76, up 373.76 points, while the Nifty gained 11.35 points to close at 24,636.
